Connect to Data Source

 

Click the UTB desktop icon utb_desktop_icon to start your connection. 

 

Depending on your PC settings and the ERP systems available to you the Selection Connection Type options box may be presented.

In the example shown JDE World Connection is greyed out and is not available.  However, JDE OneWorld Connection (One World) is available together with the option to connect to Other Connections databases.

 

If JDE OneWorld Connection is selected then on OK the connection will be direct to the OneWorld database.

If however the Other Connections is selected then a list of possible options will be displayed for further selection.

 

The Always ask me which connection type to use is checked Tick_ON_icon.

If this is unchecked, Tick_OFF_icon the connection will not show this option in the future but again depending on the initial selections made will show a different connection path.

 

Select 'OK' and the UTB blank screen will now be displayed.

Note: UTB Release 2.0.15 added the option to 'Print' results.  The Print Icon  Print_Icon is shown greyed out here.  It will become operative when a connection has been made.  The Convert to Crystal Reports Icon column-chartwas added in release 3.0.0.

 

Click on the Connect Icon Connect_to_data_source_icon to connect to an ODBC Data Source; you will be presented with a Data Link Properties table.

The Data Links Properties table is used to define the Data Link Provider and data source parameters that you want to use.

 

The Provider tab defaults to 'Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers', which is the correct option for most ODBC drivers.

 

However, other options are available.

 

Move on to the Data Link Properties, Connection tab (or click on the Next tab) to specify the parameters to be used when connecting to the ODBC data source.

Within the 'Specify the source of data' section of the Connection tab activate the 'Use Data Source Name' option.

 

Use the drop down menu to select from the available ODBC Data Source options. 

 

The options available will depend on the ERP system installed and setting previously entered in the Connection Type dialog box.  A drop down list will be displayed for selection of the required data Source to be selected.

Once you have selected a Data Source connection click on OK to activate the Logon box and the User entry security window will appear.  The next screen will vary slightly depending upon which Data Source you have selected.

In this example the jdeDirect One World connection has been specified.

Complete the User Name, and Password as prompted. 

If you had entered your User Name and Password in the Data Link Properties dialog box and selected OK then the above dialog box would not appear.

 

The Universal Table Browser (UTB) empty screen will now be displayed with three or four panes open.  The exact configuration of UTB panes will depend on the settings selected in the Tools / Options configuration. 

 

If you wish to retrieve an existing query, then click on the Load query icon Open_existing_query_icon

If this option is selected then the next screen displayed is the Open file selection screen.  Select the predefined query from the list of existing saved options.

Having selected the required query then the final screen displayed is the Logon, User Name and Password option screen.
